Herbal Traditions – 3 hour Workshops

Teas and Tinctures

Water is the easiest method for preparing and absorbing medicinal herbs.  In this 3 hour class we will learn about the basic nourishing herbal infusions; what they are, their benefits and how to prepare them.  There will be a demonstration of preparing a tea. Weather permitting; we will gather herbs so that we can wild craft a tincture, an excellent method for saving the medicinal properties found in our locally gathered herbs. We will concentrate on herbs that are abundant and easily accessible in our area.

Medicinal Oils and Salves

Oils are a wonderful way to capture the medicinal properties of herbs. We will learn how to prepare an oil from fresh herbs and discuss which herbs are most beneficial in a carrier oil and prepared a salve. Weather permitting,  we will gather herbs so that we can wild craft an oil. We will concentrate on herbs that are abundant and easily accessible in our area.

Syrups and Decoctions

Decoctions and Syrups are a method for preserving teas that are hard to come by or may be needed at a later time. In this class we will learn to make a syrup from a decoction and learn how they this should be used.  We will discuss which herbs make better syrups than others. Weather and time permitting, we will gather herbs so that we can wild craft oil. We will concentrate on herbs that are abundant and easily accessible in our area.

Kitchen Beauty – 2 hour workshop

Learn about the beauty secrets that are in your cabinets, closets and refrigerators.  By watching demonstrations, learn secrets old and new so your house too, can become a spa.

Soap Making – (limited to 4 people)

Learn the art of making soap using beautiful oils like olive oil, coconut and palm oil. Soap making based on the process of soponification  is a chemical process. This is a hands on class. Please bring a pair of dishwashing gloves and wear long sleeved shirts, pants and shoes. You will leave the class with a sample you made yourself, recipes, and a list of items needed to make soap in your own home.
